20 Life Hacks: The Beauty Edition!

Hi everyone! Sorry it took forever, but as promised, I finally got around to creating a beauty blog! And for my first entry, I have collected 20 life hacks that'll make life just a little bit simpler and possibly even more fun.
But first, WHAT IS 'LIFE HACK'?

Life hacking refers to any productivity trick, shortcut, skill, or novelty method to increase productivity and efficiency, in all walks of life; in other words, anything that solves an everyday problem in a clever or non-obvious way might be called a life hack. (Source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_hack)

Check out hundreds of life hack sites out there such as lifehacker.com and lifehack.org! I decided (since this IS a beauty blog after all) to narrow it down to 20 clever ways to make use of your beauty products and other simple everyday items  :-) Let's get started!

1. Use Nail Polish for Color Coding

Color Coding is an effective and fun way to organize your things. What's great about using nail polish is that it's long lasting and stays put, but at the same time, easier to remove, compared to colored stickers or markers. (Unless its on fabric, then you're screwed. lol)

Plus, there are so many different kinds, and textures, and colors: shimmery ones, bold ones, glittery ones, even glow-in-the-dark ones. So have fun, get organized and get creative!

2. Put valuables in an empty lotion bottle for safe keeping!

Okay, hats off to whoever came up with this idea. I mean, it's so simple right?

What's even better is that it also keeps your stuff from getting wet. Just make sure the inside of the lotion bottle is completely clean to avoid getting goo all over your money and your phone. Also, don't leave this lying around under the sun for too long, you wouldn't want a crispy-fried iphone. ;-)

Now if only we can make sure that the bad guys don't get  a hold of this decoy... hmmm.

3. Use jars to organize your dresser!

Another thing I love about life hacking is it gives a different purpose to things that you would normally throw away. It not only saves you money, it helps the environment by reducing waste too.

4. Oh no! There's a whole in my hose!!!

If you're a clumsy little tumbler like me, this has probably happened to you once or twice. hehe!

Luckily, there's a way to fix it. Temporarily, at least.

Put a little bit of clear nail polish on the hole to seal the threads and keep the hole from getting any bigger.

This won't exactly salvage your pretty little stockings  forever, but it will at least get you through the day.

5. Dryer Sheet tames unruly, "Static" Hair

"Static Hair" is especially annoying during the cold season because of the dry air, or right after you straighten your hair with a flat iron, when little hairs would stick up and would sometimes even make clicking sounds!

Quick fix! Tame the frizzies by rubbing a dryer sheet directly on to your hair. Dryer sheets and static removal spray help to neutralize the negative charge in the hair the same way it works on static in laundry.

Another tip to avoid static hair is to deeply condition your hair when you shower, and putting hair serum when it dries.

6. Break-in Shoes without the pain

New shoes are always wonderful! Except for  when you wear them for the first couple of times and you get all these cuts and bruises! (OUCH!)

To break in a new pair of shoes, Wear a pair of socks, slip into them brand new shoes and blow-dry! The heat will help stretch the shoes. :-) Just make sure not to hold the blowdryer too close to them.

 7. I got money in my balm!

Here's another one of them decoy ideas that I like!

Hide your emergency money in your empty lip balm case for safe keeping.

It's always good to set some emergency money aside. You'll never know... "S%*t" happens. What if you forget your wallet? Or it gets stolen? Or lost! Or what if a bully in school scares you into giving him all your lunch money?!! You'd be glad to have some money in your balm.

You're welcome.

8. Coke Tan Anyone?!
I learned this from a famous actress in the Philippines!

Introducing Coca Cola: The inexpensive tanning oil! Evenly coat your skin with Coke and soak up the sun! Note that it works fast so monitor the process carefully and rinse off thoroughly when you've achieved your desired color. And.... Enjoy! Aaahh...

 9. DIY Accessories Organizer

Yay! Project!!!

You will need:

Old wooden frame,
Chicken Wire,
Staple Gun
Staples (duh)
and Wire cutting tool.
(Paint is optional)

Remove the back of the frame.
Cut the chicken wire to fit the frame.
If you want, you can paint the frame to add more color. Or leave it. Up to you.
Staple it onto the back of the frame.
Hang your earrings and other accessories.

Voila! :)

 10. Use Old Ice Trays to Store  and Organize your Jewelry

Oh, how much time have we spent detangling necklaces and trying to find that other earring?

Solution? Store them individually into an old ice tray!

Efficient, cheap, and easy. Life hack!

 11. Luscious Lips by Jell-O??!

So your mom says you're too young to wear
lipstick. And you're like, "But mom! I'm 32!"

Or maybe you just want to try it because it's really cool.

Get yourself a small box of Strawberry or Cherry Flavored Jell-O. Use a q-tip, slightly wet it, dip into the jell-O and gently rub on lips. Repeat if necessary. But not too much. Make sure to stay within the lip line. Tada! long-lasting lip stain!

12. Lighten up with lemon!

Want to add a little bit of oomph to your hair color? Some highlights perhaps?

Use lemon juice to lighten your hair!

Mix lemon juice (about 4 lemons) with 1/4 cup of warm water.

Put mixture in a spray bottle and spray on your hair until damp.

Soak up the sun for a couple of hours! Don't forget to wear sunscreen!

Rinse out and apply deep conditioner onto your hair because the acid in the lemon can make your hair dry.

Repeat process until you get your desired shade.
Summer Fun!!!

13. Magnetic Organizer

Isn't it nice when you have everything within your reach?

Here's another clever idea to make the most out of your bathroom cabinet.

Stick magnetic tape on the back of the cabinet door to store your metal grooming tools like nail clippers, and tweezers...etc.

 14. Breath mint case for Wallet

You want to use your tiny little purse, but your gigantic wallet can't fit in it.

Solution?

Store your money, credit cards, and business cards in a metal breath mint case.

You might want to leave the coins out though, unless you want to jingle jingle all the way. ;-)

 15. Not just for shoes anymore!

The bathroom is one of those rooms in the house that can get really cluttered really fast.

Here's another inexpensive space-saving tip:

Hang a shoe organizer on your bathroom door to store your toiletries and other beauty tools and products!

It can also be used to store cleaning supplies in your bathroom, or your kitchen, or put one in your garage for organizing tools... etc.

 16. Use Lotion to shine your Shoes

Ofcourse it won't replace the trusty shoe polish to achieve the best results but for times when you need a quick fix... you can use lotion to shine your shoes. Just put a small amount onto your shoes and gently rub with a tissue or cloth.

 17. Use Shower Caps when packing shoes.

Keep those free shower caps that you find in hotels and spas... you can use those to pack your shoes, so that your clothes won't get dirty in the luggage. Or use it to pack wet clothes. Maybe even a sandwich. Or wrap it around your toiletries like shampoo, lotion, creams, or anything that could spill.

Aahh... the joy of traveling. I miss it.

 18. Shower Curtain Hooks up your Purses

Maybe you're doing a little bit of redecorating around the house and you want to replace your old shower curtains?

Well, don't toss those shower curtain hooks out just yet because you can use those to organize your closet!

Keep your purses nicely arranged in your closet with the shower curtain hooks. It can also be used to organize your scarves and belts.

19. Soda pop tab Hangers!

Use soda-pop tabs to off-set your hangers, giving you more closet space!

Simply slide the soda pop tab through the handle of the hanger (Assuming that the kind of hangers you have would fit that tiny whole). Let it sit on the base of the handle and then hook the other hanger in the other whole and so on and so forth.

Great way to keep the sets/matches together too.

20. Spoon The "Night" Away (hehe)

Late night huh?

That's all right, nobody needs to know. ;-)

Get rid of them nasty eye bags by gently pressing two cold spoons on them. Note that the spoons should not be freezing cold or you'll get a headache. Just pop them into the freezer for about 10 minutes, then press them onto your eyes and hold for several seconds.
Say hello to your Betty Davis eyes!
